Fresh Organic Pomegranate Juice

POM Wonderful is already a relatively clean product with just pomegranate juice from concentrate, but the concentration process reduces nutritional value and fresh flavor. No seed oils present. DIY version uses fresh organic pomegranates for superior antioxidant content and taste.

Based on: 100% Pomegranate Juice · Makes approximately 8 servings (8 fl oz each) · Serving: 8 fl oz (240ml)

Why This Recipe is Seed Oil Free

Commercial 100% Pomegranate Juice from POM Wonderful often contains inflammatory seed oils like canola, soybean, or sunflower oil. This homemade version replaces them with healthier fats like butter, ghee, coconut oil, or avocado oil — giving you the same great taste without the processed oils.

The original 100% Pomegranate Juice may also contain artificial dyes. Check it on DyeFreeCheck to find out.

Ingredients

Fresh organic pomegranates
2.5 lbs (about 4-5 large pomegranates) · Organic pomegranates from Whole Foods or farmers market
Provides the pure pomegranate juice with maximum antioxidant retention and fresh flavor compounds that are lost during concentration processing

Instructions

Step 1. Select 4-5 large, heavy organic pomegranates (about 2.5 lbs total). Look for fruits that feel heavy for their size with taut, unblemished skin. Heavier pomegranates contain more juice. Rinse pomegranates under cold water and pat dry completely.
Step 2. Cut each pomegranate in half horizontally (not vertically). Hold each half cut-side down over a large bowl and tap the back with a wooden spoon for 30-60 seconds. The seeds will fall out easily. Remove any white pith that falls with the seeds - it adds bitterness.
Step 3. You should have approximately 3-4 cups of pomegranate seeds (arils). Place all seeds in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse briefly under cold water to remove any remaining pith pieces. Drain well.
Step 4. Transfer seeds to a blender or food processor. Pulse 10-15 times in 2-second bursts - DO NOT over-blend or the seeds will break and create bitterness. You want to release the juice while keeping the seed fragments large enough to strain out.
Step 5. Pour the pulpy mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing the pulp gently with the back of a spoon to extract juice. For clearer juice, strain again through cheesecloth or a nut milk bag. This should yield approximately 64 fl oz (8 cups) of fresh juice.
Step 6. Fresh pomegranate juice is best consumed immediately for maximum antioxidant benefit. Pour into glass containers and refrigerate. Stir before serving as natural separation is normal. Consume within 2-3 days for peak flavor and nutrition, or freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage (up to 6 months).

Storage

Store in glass containers in refrigerator for 2-3 days. Natural separation is normal - stir before serving. Can freeze in ice cube trays for 6 months. Do not store in plastic as it can absorb flavors.
