Organic Brown Sugar Maple Instant Oatmeal Blend

This Nature's Path instant oatmeal is already seed oil-free and mostly clean, but contains artificial 'maple flavor' instead of real maple. The DIY version uses pure maple syrup powder and simplifies the sugar blend for better flavor and nutrition.

Based on: BROWN SUGAR MAPLE INSTANT OATMEAL · Makes approximately 30 servings · Serving: 40g (about 1/3 cup dry mix)

Why This Recipe is Seed Oil Free

Commercial BROWN SUGAR MAPLE INSTANT OATMEAL from NATURE'S PATH ORGANIC often contains inflammatory seed oils like canola, soybean, or sunflower oil. This homemade version replaces them with healthier fats like butter, ghee, coconut oil, or avocado oil — giving you the same great taste without the processed oils.

The original BROWN SUGAR MAPLE INSTANT OATMEAL may also contain artificial dyes. Check it on DyeFreeCheck to find out.

Instructions

Step 1. Measure 900g (9 cups) Bob's Red Mill organic gluten-free rolled oats into a large mixing bowl. Use a kitchen scale for accuracy - volume measurements can vary significantly with oat density. Ensure oats are completely dry and at room temperature before mixing.
Step 2. Add 90g (1 cup) Anthony's organic amaranth flakes and 90g (1 cup) Ancient Harvest quinoa flakes to the oats. Gently stir with a large wooden spoon to distribute evenly. These ancient grains will add protein and minerals while maintaining the familiar oatmeal texture.
Step 3. In a separate bowl, combine 180g (3/4 cup) Wholesome organic coconut sugar and 60g (1/4 cup) Coombs Family Farms organic maple sugar. Whisk together for 1-2 minutes to break up any clumps. Coconut sugar can form hard chunks, so thorough mixing is essential for even sweetness distribution.
Step 4. Add the sugar mixture to the oat mixture along with 3g (1/2 teaspoon) Redmond Real Salt. Using clean hands or a large spoon, thoroughly combine all ingredients for 3-4 minutes, ensuring the sugars and salt are evenly distributed throughout. Check corners of the bowl carefully as dry ingredients tend to settle there.
Step 5. Transfer the completed blend to an airtight glass container with a tight-fitting lid. Label with the date and contents. Store in a cool, dry pantry away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, this blend will maintain freshness for 6-8 months.
Step 6. To prepare one serving: Measure 40g (about 1/3 cup) of the dry mix into a bowl. Add 180-240ml (3/4 to 1 cup) boiling water, depending on desired consistency. Stir vigorously for 30 seconds, then let stand for 2-3 minutes to fully hydrate the grains. The amaranth and quinoa need slightly longer hydration time than regular oats.
Step 7. Optional enhancements: Top with 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter, a drizzle of raw honey, or fresh berries. For creamier texture, substitute half the water with warmed organic whole milk or coconut milk. The natural fats will help with satiety and nutrient absorption.

Storage

Store in airtight glass container in cool, dry place for 6-8 months. Avoid metal containers which can affect flavor. If mixture develops any off odors or visible moisture, discard immediately.
