Organic Cold-Pressed Sesame Oil

Imperial Dragon Sesame Oil is 100% pure sesame seed oil, which is actually NOT one of the inflammatory industrial seed oils to avoid. Unlike canola, soybean, or sunflower oils, sesame oil is a traditional healthy fat that's been used for thousands of years. The DIY upgrade focuses on sourcing organic, cold-pressed sesame oil instead of conventional.

Based on: Imperial Dragon Sesame Oil · Makes 1 bottle (8.5 fl oz / 250ml) · Serving: 1 Tbsp (14g)

Why This Recipe is Seed Oil Free

Commercial Imperial Dragon Sesame Oil from JFC International Inc. often contains inflammatory seed oils like canola, soybean, or sunflower oil. This homemade version replaces them with healthier fats like butter, ghee, coconut oil, or avocado oil — giving you the same great taste without the processed oils.

The original Imperial Dragon Sesame Oil may also contain artificial dyes. Check it on DyeFreeCheck to find out.

Ingredients

Organic sesame seeds
8.5 fl oz (250ml) · Already processed into Flora Certified Organic Sesame Oil
Provides the complete sesame oil - no additional ingredients needed as this is a single-ingredient product

Instructions

Step 1. Purchase Flora Certified Organic Sesame Oil (8.5 fl oz) from Amazon or Whole Foods. This product is already cold-pressed from organic sesame seeds, so no home processing is required - attempting to make sesame oil at home requires specialized equipment and yields poor quality oil.
Step 2. Transfer to a dark glass bottle if the original packaging is clear plastic. Store in a cool, dark pantry away from heat and light sources. Sesame oil has a natural shelf life of 2-3 years when properly stored.
Step 3. Use exactly as you would the commercial version: 1 tablespoon (14g) provides 130 calories of healthy fats. The organic version has superior flavor - nutty, rich, and aromatic compared to conventional sesame oil.
Step 4. For cooking applications: Use for finishing dishes, salad dressings, marinades, and light sautéing (smoke point ~350°F). A little goes a long way due to the intense nutty flavor. Store opened bottles in refrigerator to extend freshness.
Step 5. Quality indicators: Good sesame oil should be golden amber in color, smell nutty and toasted (not rancid), and have a rich mouthfeel. Organic versions tend to have more robust flavor than conventional.

Storage

Store in cool, dark place. Refrigerate after opening. Shelf life: 2-3 years unopened, 1 year opened when refrigerated.

Cost Comparison

Cost per serving (homemade)$0.76
Cost per serving (store-bought)$0.65

The organic version costs more per serving but offers superior quality, certified organic sourcing, and guaranteed cold-pressed processing. The upfront cost is higher but you're getting cleaner ingredients without pesticide residues.
