Artesano's commercial white bread contains inflammatory soybean oil, synthetic preservatives like calcium propionate, and processed enriched flour with added synthetic vitamins. This homemade version eliminates the seed oil (replacing with butter), uses clean organic ingredients, and removes all chemical preservatives for a healthier, traditional bread.

Why This Recipe is Seed Oil Free
Commercial bakery bread the Original from Artesano often contains inflammatory seed oils like canola, soybean, or sunflower oil. This homemade version replaces them with healthier fats like butter, ghee, coconut oil, or avocado oil — giving you the same great taste without the processed oils.
The original bakery bread the Original may also contain artificial dyes. Check it on DyeFreeCheck to find out.

Instructions
Step 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 400ml (1.75 cups) warm water (105-110°F) with 24g (2 tablespoons) organic cane sugar and stir until dissolved. Sprinkle 7g (2.25 teaspoons) active dry yeast over the surface and let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy and doubled in size. This proves the yeast is active - if it doesn't foam, start over with fresh yeast.
Step 2. Melt 30g (2 tablespoons) organic butter and let cool slightly. Add the melted butter and 10g (2 teaspoons) sea salt to the yeast mixture and stir to combine. The butter replaces the inflammatory soybean oil in the original while providing the same moisture and richness.
Step 3. Gradually add 680g (5.5 cups) organic bread flour, starting with 4 cups and mixing with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Add remaining flour gradually until dough pulls away from bowl sides but remains slightly tacky. Avoid adding too much flour as this creates dense bread.
Step 4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should pass the 'windowpane test' - you can stretch a small piece thin enough to see light through without tearing. Proper kneading develops gluten for the soft, chewy texture of the original.
Step 5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size. Punch down, divide in half, and shape into two loaves. Place in greased 9x5 inch loaf pans, cover, and let rise again for 45-60 minutes until dough crowns the pan edges.
Step 6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake loaves for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C). The tops should sound hollow when tapped. Cool on wire racks for at least 1 hour before slicing to prevent gummy texture.
Step 7. For serving, slice to approximately 38g portions (about 0.75-inch thick slices) to match the original serving size. Store at room temperature in airtight containers or bread bags for up to 5 days, or freeze sliced loaves for up to 3 months.
Storage
Store at room temperature in airtight container for 5-7 days. Without preservatives, this bread has shorter shelf life than commercial versions but superior flavor and nutrition. Freeze sliced loaves for up to 3 months.

Higher upfront ingredient costs are offset by bulk purchasing and multiple batches from each package. The organic ingredients cost more initially but provide superior nutrition without inflammatory seed oils or chemical preservatives.
