Why This Recipe is Seed Oil Free
Commercial Barista Oat Organic from Minor Figures often contains inflammatory seed oils like canola, soybean, or sunflower oil. This homemade version replaces them with healthier fats like butter, ghee, coconut oil, or avocado oil — giving you the same great taste without the processed oils.
The original Barista Oat Organic may also contain artificial dyes. Check it on DyeFreeCheck to find out.

Extraction medium and base liquid for the milk
Instructions
Step 1. Soak 200g organic rolled oats in 2 liters filtered water for 15-30 minutes at room temperature. This softening step helps extract maximum creaminess and prevents the oats from making the final milk gritty or overly thick.
Step 2. Add 1g fine sea salt and 36g refined avocado oil to the soaked oat mixture. The salt enhances flavor while the avocado oil provides the rich mouthfeel that makes this suitable for steaming in coffee drinks.
Step 3. Blend the mixture on high speed for 60-90 seconds using a high-powered blender like Vitamix or Blendtec. The goal is complete pulverization of the oats without over-blending, which can make the milk slimy. Stop blending as soon as the mixture looks completely smooth and creamy.
Step 4. Immediately strain the mixture through a fine-mesh nut milk bag or cheesecloth-lined strainer into a large pitcher. Press the pulp gently to extract liquid but don't over-press or the milk will become gritty. The remaining oat pulp can be composted or used in baking.
Step 5. Taste and adjust salt if needed - the milk should have a clean, slightly sweet oat flavor with neutral richness from the avocado oil. If it tastes flat, add a pinch more salt. If you want it creamier, whisk in an additional 1-2 tablespoons avocado oil.
Step 6. Pour into glass bottles or jars, leaving 1 inch headspace. This milk is designed for coffee use - it should steam beautifully without curdling thanks to the avocado oil and proper mineral balance. Shake vigorously before each use as natural separation is normal.
Step 7. For coffee drinks: Use exactly as you would commercial oat milk. Steam to 150-160°F for optimal texture. For drinking: Serve chilled. The milk has a neutral flavor that works perfectly in cereal, smoothies, or drinking straight.
Storage
Refrigerate immediately after making and use within 4-5 days. Shake well before each use as natural separation occurs. Do not freeze as this will break the emulsion.

Cost per serving (store-bought)$0.55
Savings35%
Initial ingredient investment is higher but bulk buying provides significant long-term savings. The avocado oil alone lasts for many batches, making the per-serving cost very competitive while eliminating inflammatory seed oils.
